The 4040 is an enhanced version of the 4004. They have both the same
clock speed. The 4040 has a increased stack size, double memory
address, 14 new instructions, eight 4-bit registers, and interrupt
abilities.
The 4040 family is also identified as MCS-40 and  was primary used for
games, testing and control equipment.
The Intel iUPP 103 PROM Programmer use the 4040 cpu.
